The Art of Public Speaking
Every leadership job often requires public speaking to colleagues, employees, or outside civic groups. Our class will focus on how to organize your main points and present them in an interesting way and how to customize your talk for a particular audience or venue. During four weekly two-hour classes for up to ten adults, we will talk about relaxation, dress, stage presence, humor, and the dos and don'ts of teaching aides such as Power Point demonstrations and hand outs. Students will write, rehearse, and present a speech for the class to be evaluated and video taped. Our teacher is a former state senator from Illinois who was also an editorial writer for The Chicago Sun-Times and a former Teaching Fellow of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University. He is Mark Q. Rhoads, an older brother of acting teacher Cheryl Felicia Rhoads, and he has extensive experience in speaking to civic groups and has appeared on more than 300 radio and TV programs. The tuition for four two-hour classes over four weeks is $350. The class is open to any adult or advanced student with or without previous public speaking experience. Classes will be Tuesday nights 7-9 PM on Feb. 15, Feb. 22, March 1, and March 8. For more information call Mark Rhoads at 703-536-5770 or send an email to [email protected].
